Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) is proud to partner, once again, with the American Red Cross to boost blood supplies for the third year. The blood drive will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 at ILRC located at 1760 Southridge Dr, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
The blood drive is open to employees of ILRC and the public. Photo ID’s or a Red Cross donor card are required. Donors should eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating. While potential blood donors are encouraged to register online for the event at http://www.redcrossblood.org, entering the sponsor keyword IndependentLivingJC; walk-ins are certainly welcome. Donors can also contact Rose Buechter at ILRC’s office, 573-556-0400.
It only takes a short amount of time to donate, and with that one donation, it is estimated that three lives are saved. Every day, the Red Cross must collect almost 17,000 pints of blood for patients at nearly 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the county. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. This time of year, the need for blood is high. Be a hero and come out to ILRC and support the American Red Cross.
To give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated whole blood in the last eight weeks or double red cells in the last sixteen weeks. Healthy means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, “healthy” also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.
